1.1 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
Cooperative have become one of the most widespread rural-oriented socio-economic development organization in Nigeria today. There are, therefore, variable instruments for poverty alleviation.
This article, therefore, discusses the implication of cooperative formation and management for poverty alleviation. It also therefore emphesis on the importance of some governmental programs that are geared towards reducing the level of poverty in the society like fadama project. These are necessary considering the height of poverty and its attending consequences.
1.2 STATEMENT OF PROBLEMS
In Nigeria of today poverty has been a bane of both peoples home in particular and the society at large for these reasons, coment has been raised by the people of interest and government alike. Options that were available to people mulded forming of cooperative societies to amelioriete the plights but government on the other hands established some program like FADAMA to cushion the effect of poverty.
However, these cooperative societies are bedein by object poverty e.t.c.
1.3 PURPOSE OF THE STUDY
The purpose of this research work among other things includes

This study will help to provide knowledge of what is poverty and its prevalent in the contemporary Nigeria. It will also highlight its effect in the general well being and security of the people and the possible way of combating the ugly trend called poverty.
Moreso, this study will add to existing works in this area, thereby being of assistance to student, practitioners of public policy makers e.t.c.

This research work is limited to the FADAMA project of the federal Government as sponsored by the world bank.
1.7 LIMITATION OF THE STUDY
A number of limiting conditions were encountered in the course of this research work. First it was the problem of time. This research had to be shatting between finding and date/materials for this research work. Attending lecture and also writing assignment.
This limited to great extend, the area covered by the Research work.
Secondly the researchers encountered serious financial problem, as a student, it was difficult to raise fund for data collection for this work.
1.8 DEFINITION OF TERMS
Some terms used in these study, which could be subjected to different interpretation by different readers of this project report include but not limited to be following.
CADRE: A small group of people who are specially chosen and trained for a portiel or purpose.
ABJECT POVERTY: A terrible state of needs or lack of something without hope.
FADAMA: Federal government program sponsored by the World Bank and meant to cushion the effect of poverty in Nigeria.
